Road Workers (X63 Posts)

As a Road Worker, your role will be hands-on and physically active. Key duties include:

Basic road upkeep, pothole repairs, and patching. Roadside cleaning, grass mowing, and bush removal. installing and maintaining safety equipment and road signage. To avoid floods, drainage systems should be cleaned and maintained. clearing road reserves of impediments, garbage, and rubbish. helping to manage traffic while maintenance is being done. Material loading and unloading. taking part in emergency road clearance following storms or accidents. following stringent guidelines for occupational health and safety. collaborating as a team to meet monthly and weekly goals.

Road Operators (X10 Posts)

Road Operators will handle heavy machinery and more technical tasks:

Operating large construction equipment, including tipper trucks, graders, rollers, and excavators. Loading and unloading building supplies. Gravel and tarred roads are graded, surfaced, and maintained. Examining, maintaining, and cleaning equipment. Filling out equipment records and daily log sheets. Moving supplies from one location to another. Assisting with road restoration and development projects. Ensuring that safety rules are followed in every operation. When necessary, road workers should receive training and coaching.

Both roles require a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.

Minimum Requirements:

For Road Workers:

  • Grade 10 Certificate (or higher).
  • No previous experience required – training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of basic Occupational Health and Safety principles.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to read and write at a functional level.
  • Residents of Mpumalanga will be given preference.

For Road Operators:

  • Grade 10 Certificate (or higher).
  • Valid Code EC Driver’s Licence (with valid PDP where applicable).
  • Operating Certificate / Competency for relevant heavy machinery.
  • Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of road safety procedures and machinery maintenance.
  • Physically fit and safety-conscious.

General Requirements for All Posts:

  • South African citizen.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and shifts when required.
  • No criminal record that may disqualify you from public service.
  • Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate.
